WW2 Timeline

Information WW2 Timeline: For a WW2 timeline, the beginning of the Second World War is naturally an important statistic. The start of the war has come into some controversy, with historians arguing that there are two distinct beginnings (see also WW2 history).

When DID the second world war begin? The invasion of China by Japan is a potential first theatre of conflict. On July 7th 1937, Japanese and Chinese troops clashed on the Marco Polo bridge on the outskirts of Beijing. Some historians have claimed that this was the first battle of the second world war in Asia, and from these roots the war spread globally.

Or is it proper for a WW2 timeline that the beginning of the Second World War (WW2) is September 1st 1939 when Germany invaded Poland? In any case, the Second World War in Europe began on this date.

WW2 Timeline - Europe -

The end of the WW2 can be considered to fall on either the 8th or 9th of May 1945, the dates that Germany surrendered to Berlin (First to the Americans, secondly to the Russians). Of course, this is an important date in a WW2 timeline. The signing on the 9th was at 00.01 due to delays. The question of whether this is important or not is deliberately not discussed.

WW2 Timeline - Asia -

Furthermore, the surrender of Japan on September 2nd 1945 on the American ship Missouri in the Bay of Tokyo can be viewed as the last act of the Second World War. The Second World War therefore lasted for more than 5 years. The range for the WW2 timeline.

WW2 Timeline - Summary -

So, from different points of view, the actual duration of the second war can be seen differently. The following WW2 timelines are listed under the above assumptions in the debate.

1) The Second World War starts are on July 7th 1937 and the WWII finished on September 2nd 1945 (assuming the start and end is in Asia)

2) The Second World War began on September 1st 1939 and finished on May 8th/9th 1945 (assuming the start and end is in Europe)

Please note, that a WW2 timeline can differ depending on the point of view of the student (Europe/Asia), as well by the exact time of the start and the end. The topic "WW2 timeline" here in a short overview.

Book Recommendation

Richard Holmes

World War II: The Definitive Visual History

Very good book on the 2nd World War II, which provides comprehensive information about the events and chronology.

It gives an impressive overview of the causes, progress, and the most important events during this period (about 1200 stunning images). Important war aims and strategies are explained, and portrays of important personalities are included (as an example: Rommel and Churchill).

Not unimportant, the price is really low, in our view for such a good illustrated book.
